Tie-dyed Irony

" Tie-dyed Irony "

by Suzan Jivan

Suggesting
a dawning age
under tie-dyed
imposing irony
in a declaration
of peace-making
originating from
a raucous troupe
of crude nudes.

Rising Starshine

" Rising Starshine "

by Suzan Jivan

Repeated honks
and smeary blasts
gratuitously rather
than gradually
deflating
stretches
of playing
while starting
a deep ascent
already destined
for nightfall
amid a rising
starshine.

Wavering

" Wavering "

by Suzan Jivan

Squinting toward
a wooden target
balanced on a log
filling a long barrel
with explosive
black powder
grasping a double-
bladed paddle
for a virtually-
unsinkable
plastic craft
while wearing
a partially-
iinflated
life jacket
and precariously
standing on a
steeply-slanted
launching ramp.

also known as
putt-putts
and speeders
especially
accessible
through
the troughs
and gorges
of camaraderie
and commerce
in ensuing
rendezvous
of coonskin-
capped
comrades
and their
companions
wearing plush
buckskins and
broad brims.

A Human Mural of Tatoos

"A Human Mural of Tatoos"

The summer days
grew sweltering
in a big, empty basin
on a steep brick archway
with a human mural of tatoos
ringed with hula hoops
and soothing hipster plumage
with the clamoring
of a smattering
of paddling hands
from where the locals
once swam.

Code Red Yokels

" Code Red Yokels "

by Suzan Jivan

Large-scale
narratives'
striking use
of humor
in inane human
dos and don'ts
as wide-eyed
code-red yokels.

The Faking of a Nation

"The Faking of a Nation"

by Suzan Jivan

Fake history
emblazoned
on a nation
in a layered
masquerade
sitting-up-and-
taking notice
of a raw
flamenco.
